If you thought marijuana was the only substance which could give you a high, you should rather consider your thoughts again. Some over-the-counter medications can get you higher than marijuana. These are drugs that are legal and do not require a prescription, but they are far more potent and dangerous than some of the illegal substances.

Dextromethorphan

Tramadol 

Tramadol cannot be considered as an opioid, but it affects the brain similarly. It has opiate agonist activity and can act as an analgesic. Despite not being potent enough, it can give people a feeling similar to that of opioids. Recovering addicts often abuse tramadol because it is readily available and can give them a high which is alike to heroin’s or any other synthetic opioids such as Vicodin.

The status enjoyed by tramadol is indeed unique.Despite being considered as a prescription drug, it has not been scheduled federally. Only a few states within the US have regulated its availability. This clearly indicates that one must have a prescription to purchase tramadol in some states.

Diethyl Ether 

Ether is the popular name for diethyl ether, and it is commonly used by the medical fraternity as an anesthetic. It also has a history of recreational uses since the late 19th century. Ether was frequently used in Russia, France, Norway, the United States and Ireland. The effects of ether are similar to those of alcohol. However, it is cheaper and once consumed, one becomes sober faster. Ether is popular among people who do not have much money to spend on such substances.

Diethyl ether is not difficult to obtain within the United States. However, some suppliers are cautious about who they sell it to. They instead prefer to sell it just to universities and laboratories. The reason for this is that ether is often used to create several illegal substances such as LSD.

Although these are over-the-counter medications, it is advisable to stay away from them as they have adverse effects on human health.
