Being proactive means being a problem-solving individual and having a solution even before the problem appears. Here are some key points which represent your path on the way to success.

Realize that everything depends on you

Even though it sometimes doesn’t seem so, everything is up to you. You get to decide what you will do and where you will go after this moment, i.e. always. You decide if you want to follow some rules, advice, or demands. Family and friends are there to support you (or sabotage you) but they cannot do anything instead of you. As such, they cannot succeed for you. That is only in your power. You should realize that you have the actual ownership of your problems, and nobody else can, and nobody will solve them for you.

You should focus on the possible solutions

Good problem-solving skills are something that every proactive person should have. Therefore, if you want to become a proactive person, you will have to develop this ability. Generally, all people run into problems from time to time. It is how we handle them that matters, that makes us effective. The most logical and effective way to handle a problem is to focus on the possible solutions.

You should never focus on things that are not in your control! Why should you yet that is nothing but a waste of time?! You should focus on what you can control now and in the future. If you represent a good proactive example, your team will learn the right way how to approach problems and solutions effectively. Spontaneously, you will become a leader!

 Have “SMART” Goals

What does SMART mean? It is an acronym made from Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timely. So, your goals have to be specific rather than broad ones; attainable rather than elusive: realistic rather than imaginary; timely rather than without a timeframe.

 Be Brave

Being successful is about being bold and taking steps every day to be better than you were the day before. Don’t expect miracles and luck on every step that you take but with time, all the pieces of the puzzle will click into their place. Being proactive is moving in a positive direction, always moving forward.

You should set out milestones for yourself in specific timeframes, or you are not going to do anything. Taking small steps, accomplishing task per task and thus motivating yourself on the way to your goals is obligatory. You should make a move to make things happen but beware – your milestone timeframes have to be realistic! If you give yourself too short timeframe you will not be able to accomplish the task and thus your task will be counterproductive.

 You should be consistent

If you want to succeed then you have to be consistent. Your success is not so much about getting everything right but about being consistent. You have to consistently and persistently take the steps every day to steadily move toward your goal. Even though the steps may look small and insignificant in the beginning, doing the right things daily will make you come closer to your goals.

 Choose the best company

You have to eliminate the negative people from your surrounding and make room for the self-driven effective ones. This proximity can be an excellent motivator. You have to choose between people who are self-driven and people who will drag you down. No one can have both types by your side and expect to succeed.

You should never spend your time with lazy people since they will make you lazy and prevent you from reaching your daily goals. They slow you down without you really knowing it. You will ‘wake up’ later realizing how mad you are at yourself for being consumed by laziness.

 Always stay honest!

Being honest and humble are much appreciated. You should turn around and take a hard look at what you are doing and how you are doing it. Stop making excuses and honestly admit to yourself what is not working for you. Stop telling yourself that you are taking the right steps if you are actually doing something which makes you inefficient. Generally, it is really hard to be honest if you are not actually making progress. At the end of the day, if you don’t hit your goals, what’s the point in lying?
